4 Easy Ways to Prepare Your Home for Extra Guests During the Fall Season

Admin • 25 October 2021

The fall season includes a lot of opportunities for families to come over, visit, and stay for extended amounts of time. As you prepare to have guests over, ensure your home is accommodating and you have everything you need to provide a good time. Some upgrades and changes to your home will make a big difference.

Check out some of the easiest ways to prepare your home for extra guests and how to implement those changes through simple purchases or small projects.

1. Cookware Upgrades
When more people stay in the house, you will have bigger portions to prepare. Chances are, the current pots and pans you own are not large enough to accommodate the bigger meals. Take some time to go through your current kitchen inventory and determine what pans you should upgrade.

For example, if you make soup or boil large batches of potatoes, then you should consider huge pots like a stockpot. The taller pot can hold items and cook everything at once instead of separating the food into different portions. Also, consider casserole dishes to hold more while you bake.

If you bake desserts, then large cooling racks will hold cooked items as you plan to bake another round of cookies, brownies, or other treats. The new items will help keep a flow going in the kitchen and reduce the extra time necessary to prepare extra food.
Look at the appliances you own as well. A coffee maker that brews larger pots or holds extra water for single-serve cups will help with your morning routine.

2. Charging Stations
Traveling to your house may include a lot of portable gadgets. Instead of having everyone battle for outlets to charge devices, create some dedicated charging stations in your home. One of the easiest ways to create a dedicated charging station is through an outlet expander. An outlet expansion plug includes extra outlets along with USB ports.

Purchase some standard USB-B, USB-C, and lighting cables so everyone has access to charge their devices. Use a TV tray or serving tray to easily set devices down on and plug in at a designated area. This will prevent scattered devices and cords all around your home.

If your guests have kids, then consider safety outlets like spring-loaded outlets that block off open outlets when the plugs are not in use.

3. Night Lighting Options
Guests at your home may not know their way around the house, especially in the darkness of night. Provide easy navigation and ways around with lighting upgrades in the home. Purchase light bulbs compatible with dimmer switches. Instead of keeping lights fully on all night, provide dim lights throughout the home.

LED night lights can plug into hallway outlets and provide illumination near areas like stairs and bathrooms. Consider temporarily installing LED strips along the edges of the floor. The light strips provide an easy way to see through hallways and dark areas. You could also run the lights down staircases as well.

4. Laundry Accessories
The longer guests stay at your house, the more laundry will pile up. Help keep your laundry room organized with some accessories. A rolling rack allows guests to hang up items straight out of the dryer and keep them organized without invading your own laundry area.

You could also purchase a small shelf for a person to put folded clothes and items. When guests arrive, you can over the laundry process so everyone is on the same page and understands what to do with their laundry.
