Tools You Should Own If You Love DIY Projects

From simple projects like replacing a faulty socket to large projects like home makeovers, do-it-yourself (DIY) projects have increasingly gained popularity. A DIY project helps you save money and eventually enjoy the good feeling of creating something on your own.

However, to make and repair things like a professional, you must have tools for the job. Therefore, every DIYer should have a tool kit with all the must-have tools. Luckily, you don't need costly professional tools for simple DIY projects.

Below are some essential tools to own if you love DIY projects.

Hammer

Most DIY projects will require a hammer. Mainly, a hammer is for driving and pulling nails, but you can also use it for riveting or striking chisels.

Since the variety of hammers is very wide, ensure you have selected a hammer based on your needs. For example, a claw hammer is best for driving nails and any striking tasks, while a ball-peen hammer will be more suitable for cabinetwork and light joinery.

Tape Measure

You can usually not make functional and appealing things without using correct measurements. Wrong measurements lead to material waste and operational downtime.

A tape measure will help you take accurate measurements, thus avoiding all the challenges mentioned above.

A simple 25 feet long tape measure can often meet all your measuring needs as a DIYer.

Screwdriver

From furniture to electronics and kitchenware, most items in our homes have screws. Therefore, a screwdriver will come in handy when fixing such items. You can also use a screwdriver to drive wood screws in carpentry.

Since screws come in varying head designs, buy a full set of screwdrivers to avoid compatibility issues.

Carpenter's Pencil

Whether a kitchen makeover or a DIY table project, most DIY projects will require you to make markings on your working surfaces, mostly after taking measurements. While you can use any marker, using a carpenter's pencil can make a huge difference.

Unlike typical pencils, a carpenter's pencil will make clearer, easy-to-follow markings, thanks to its unique rectangular design and higher lead density. Carpenter's pencils also don't wear quickly.

Circular Saw

A circular saw comes in handy when you want to make cuts through wood, asphalt, metal, concrete, stone, brick, and tiles. Unlike the traditional manual handsaw, a circular saw will take less time and energy to cut through materials.

Speed Square

A speed square is an important tool in woodworking, especially when building frames and boxes. The most common uses of speed squares include checking whether corners are 90 degrees and determining and marking angles.

Pliers

Since pliers are best for gripping, you can use a pair of pliers to hold objects or to tighten or loosen bolts. You can also use your pliers to slice wires and remove nails or pins.

Slip joint pliers could be the best pick, as you can extend the range of the pliers' jaws to match the thickness of the material you want to grip.

Toolbox

Once you have bought all the tools you need for your DIY projects, buy a toolbox to organize the tools and keep them safe from dust and rust. Scattered tools are hard to locate and can easily get lost. For better organization, buy a toolbox with multiple storage drawers.

DIY projects may not be complex, but you need some tools to guarantee the success of your project. Though the list of tools you can own is endless, you can start with the above tools because they are essential for your DIY projects. Only buy from reputable dealers to benefit from free advice and quality products.
